Our Ambassador
John McAvoy
John is currently a Nike athlete, however he was previously a high profile armed robber who found redemption through the power of sport. Having broken both British and World records whilst in prison he is now forging a new life as an endurance athlete and speaker who is committed to using his story of rehabilitation to help and inspire others to change their lives for the better. We have built a fantastic relationship with John and continue to develop new programmes in a collaborative manner to benefit at risk young people.
Alliance of Sport
We have been featured on the Alliance of Sport’s website where they have showcased our best practice. We have recently received funding through them to deliver a Tackling inequality programme.
Croydon Council
We have built a great relationship with our local authority since we started Gloves Not Gunz. We are a recommended council provider and have previously delivered lots of joint programmes alongside the council’s gangs’ team and Youth Offending Service. We currently run a NEET programme for Croydon Council.
Home Office
We have previously received funding on two occasions to deliver programmes for the Home Office’s Knife Crime Community Fund and their Ending Gang Violence and Exploitation fund.
Limelight Sports
In 2019 we were a community partner of Limelight sports where we fielded a team in the London Triathlon, where one of our team won the award for fastest female. This was a pioneering event as it was the first-time young people who wouldn’t usually be able to take part due to financial barriers were able to train towards and complete the triathlon.
London Youth
We have received our Bronze award from London Youth and working towards our Silver currently.
Oasis Academy
We have delivered school programmes throughout 3 different Oasis Schools In the borough of Croydon. We currently provide two of the schools with a key worker.
Palace for Life
This was the first community partnership we formed and since our inception Palace for Life have funded our weekly community programme for young people In Croydon.
Street Doctors
We have received training and delivered programmes alongside Street Dr’s for First Aid at work and First aid for young people dealing with Knife wounds.
Sutton Council
We have delivered different programmes at Sutton including a Knife Crime programme and a community boxing session.
Mopac
We were successful in receiving Young Londoners Funding for three years to serve the young people in our borough.
Evening Standard
We received three years of funding for our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu programme through the dispossessed fund.
Nike
We are a community enabler for Nike, we have created various legacy programmes and had our young people and staff featured in Nike publications on their social media and website.
Fight for Peace
We are a FFP Alliance Partner after being successful on the FPP alumni programme, we have received help and support since we started Gloves Not Gunz and are very proud of this relationship.
